Time's 100 Most Influential List Includes Tom Ford, Kate Middleton
Tom Ford should be able to use his clout to sell a few more used cars this weekend.
The designer—whose image was "borrowed" for a used-car dealership in Canada—is the sole fashion designer to crack the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world for 2011.
A glowing tribute written by good friend (and Spring 2011 model) Rita Wilson singles Ford out for being a "closet comedian," true friend, and well-mannered gentleman (though we'd hasten to add a line or two about his supremely sexy designs).
"Handwritten notes are common for the man who wore a three-piece suit every day while directing his visionary first film, A Single Man," writes Wilson. "Tom might be one of the Time 100, but to me he is one in a million."
Though Ford is the only designer on the list, the magazine does pay tribute to some trendsetters, including Blake Lively.
"She makes you feel that she, and life, are going to go on forever," director Baz Luhrmann enthuses of the Chanel spokesmodel, while novelist Jackie Collins praises the powerful pairing of Prince William and Kate Middleton. (Hey, countless sold-out Issa and Reiss dresses are a true testament!)
