Tom Ford in Used Car Ad: Honk if You Like Fashion?

Ford selling Fords? The designer appears in a Canadian used car ad.

Has the king of hip turned to selling heaps?

An ad for a Canadian used-car dealership features the image of an unlikely wheeler-and-dealer: Tom Ford.

Though he's notoriously protective of his designs and name—as evidenced by his top-secret womenswear shows and conflict with Mr. Porter after an employee named Tom Ford caused confusion by sending out a press release with his moniker on it—the designer has surfaced in an ad promoting Dale Wurfel Used Vehicles of Strathroy, Ontario, AdFreak reports.

But lest you think Ford is taking his last name a tad too seriously, note that his image, which sees him casting a seductive stare in an unbuttoned tuxedo shirt and silk dressing gown, is an old photo credited to GLAAD. Perhaps the dealership thought that by flipping the photo nobody would notice?

To add insult to injury, the ad hints that Ford has a few notches on his bedpost, thanks to the tagline, "You know you're not the first. But do you really care?"

An earlier ad featuring a redheaded female model and the same line had sparked accusations of sexism, but this new version may cause bigger problems for the dealership.

The designer's PR team has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Meanwhile, check out Tom Ford's steamy new Neroli Portofino campaign.
