She may have gone home empty-handed, but Julianne Moore had quite the consolation prize in Tom Ford at the 2011 BAFTA Awards in London.

The tux-clad designer—who recently interviewed Moore for the March issue of InStyle—not only served as the Best Supporting Actress nominee’s date for the awards ceremony but also designed her dress, a breathtaking midnight blue–velvet strapless number with a bow detail in back.

Corsages are for amateurs!

Moore, who walked in Ford’s star-studded Spring 2011 runway presentation, paired the gown with retro side-parted waves and crimson lipstick for a classic Hollywood effect. And though a peach Elie Saab–clad Amy Adams and Jessica Alba’s electric blue Atelier Versace gave her some stiff competition, the redheaded 50-year-old stunner emerged as the evening’s best-dressed leading lady.

It was a big night for Ford too, who is presumably prepping for his upcoming London Fashion Week presentation. In addition to playing escort, he presented an award and was thanked in the acceptance speech of winner Colin Firth, who called him “my very great friend, who has everything to do with me standing here.” It was a nod to his critically acclaimed role in Ford’s 2009 directorial debut, A Single Man, which co-starred—you got it—Julianne Moore.

So will Ford be making an appearance at the Oscars? One can only hope!
