Hollywood Reporter Names the Year's 25 Power Stylists

Want to make it as a Hollywood stylist? Get a job as Anna Wintour's assistant.

At least, that's what the Hollywood Reporter seems to imply. The paper has named its picks for best stylists of 2012, and topping the list are two of the Vogue editrix's former flunkies: Kate Young and Leslie Fremar.

The lineup also reveals that one of a stylist's main functions—besides making sure his or her clients look great on the red carpet, of course—is ensuring those clients land a high-profile fashion or beauty contract. For example, Petra Flannery's work may have helped garner a Dior deal for Mila Kunis and a Revlon contract for Emma Stone.

Plus, many of the names on the list are following in Rachel Zoe and L'Wren Scott's footsteps and have developed their own fashion lines: Young designed a line for Cardigan, Fremar does a collaboration with Fruit of the Loom, Flannery has a collection with Genetic Denim, Cher Coulter co-designs JewelMint jewelry with client Kate Bosworth, and Katie Holmes' right-hand woman Jeanne Yang is also her partner on fashion line Holmes & Yang. Ilaria Urbinati, who came in at #25 and styles Nina Dobrev and Krysten Ritter, co-owns L.A.'s Confederacy boutique.

Among the magazine's other picks: Elizabeth Stewart, who's responsible for Jessica Chastain's black-and-gold Oscar moment; Samantha McMillen, who styles Carey Mulligan and the Fanning sisters, and Brad Goreski, who keeps Jessica Alba and Rashida Jones looking good. Check out more of the selections in the slideshow above.
