Loulou de la Falaise Dies, Fashion World Reacts
The fashion world is mourning one of its most iconic figures.
Loulou de la Falaise, who served as a muse and jewelry designer for Yves Saint Laurent, has passed away at the age of 63, the New York Times reports.
No cause of death was given for de la Falaise, who died on November 5 at her home in the Vexin region of northwest France.
Recently seen in the YSL documentary L'Amour Fou, de la Falaise first met the late designer in 1968 and came to influence many of his '70s-era designs—including the legendary Le Smoking jacket—with her eclectic bohemian style.
A native of England, de la Falaise designed jewelry and hats for YSL from 1972 until Laurent's retirement in 2002.
In 2003 she launched a short-lived eponymous clothing label that captured her gypsy-chic Left Bank style.
By 2007, the former model and fashion editor was designing costume jewelry for Oscar de la Renta, while HSN also sold some of her pieces.
"To find inspiration in everything can become automatic if you allow that little machine in your head to work," she said in 2008.
