YSL Resort 2012

It's officially resort/cruise season—not in stores, but in showings. It's actually the best time for editors to see the clothes as these are the most summery collections designers will dish out. Of course, they won't hit stores until October or November—right in time for winter holidays and cruises.

YSL held its Cruise 2012 show today in an intimate show at the House of Venison gallery in Manhattan. The clothes were a very literal take on the nautical name of the season: anchors, red, white, and blue, high-waisted sailor detailing, all topped off with high floral wedges. A very bright and fun collection to see on steamy Wednesday morning.

Red is very much on Stefano Pilati's mood board this season (as evidenced by the red sneakers he wore for his bow). A gorgeous red trench (with gold nautical buttons), red wedges, a black dress with red underlay all sauntered out. Not to be outdone, blues, whites—and stars and stripes—all made an appearance. I only wish I had some of these looks to wear this previous weekend; would have made for an ideal Memorial Day extravaganza.
