Nicole Richie, John Varvatos to Join Fashion Star
Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Heidi Klum should watch their backs—Project Runway’s panel of judges may have serious style chops, but NBC’s upcoming Fashion Star has its own trio, and they’re particularly starry.
Jessica Simpson, who was announced as a celebrity mentor back in June, has been joined by Nicole Richie, another blonde star who’s made a name for herself in the world of fashion with clothing lines House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate.
Rounding out the group (and adding a bit more fashion industry experience) is John Varvatos, while Elle Macpherson will take on hosting duties.
“NBC could not have asked for better additions to the celebrity mentors than John Varvatos, one of the most well-known menswear designers in the nation, and international style icon and creative director Nicole Richie,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s executive vice president of alternative programming, according to Entertainment Weekly. “Both are trendsetters and tastemakers and their design skills and expertise will be invaluable to our contestants on the series.”
With each of the celebrity mentors boasting their own small-screen histories—Simpson on Newlyweds, Richie on The Simple Life, and Varvatos with cameo appearances on HBO’s How to Make It in America and, well, Project Runway—there’s definitely some good TV in store. But good fashion? Well, we’ll have to wait and see …
