Upper East Siders Rejoice: Uptown Gets a Fashion Injection
Time was, bleeding-edge fashion was restricted to downtown, which is why we were thrilled to discover that this year is bringing some new boutiques in our neck of the woods.
Racked has a report today on their most anticipated stores opening up in New York, and uptown is the surprising victor of the bunch. Two of our favorite designing duos are among those headed this way: Proenza Schouler has marked a spot on Madison Avenue between 68th and 69th Streets, and Rag & Bone will be a couple blocks up the avenue at 73rd. Just a stone's throw away will be Fivestory, a new multi-designer boutique that's said to be Gotham's answer to Colette. Shoe designer Charlotte Olympia is also looking at an undisclosed Madison Avenue spot. And Belstaff is planting its flagship right at the corner of Madison Avenue and 68th.
These stores join local favorites like Edit boutique, which carries Derek Lam and Nina Ricci and Soigné Kothari's chic boîte Soigne K.

Come to think of it, the 10021 zip has been getting a lot of fashion ink lately, with Carine Roitfeld and Olivier Zahm flocking to the Mark Hotel on East 77th Street. Oh, and did we mention? None other than Madonna makes her home here, despite telling a Twitter fan that Williamsburg, Brooklyn is her favorite neighborhood. (Your secret's safe with us, Madge.) Downtown may still have the monopoly on cool, but it looks like we're gaining on them. Finally!
