Andrej Pejic: I Would Get a Sex Change for Victoria’s Secret
Most models would give their right arm to land a Victoria’s Secret contract, but Andrej Pejic is prepared to give up a little something extra. The androgynous blond bombshell says he’d undergo a sex-change operation if it meant earning his Angel wings.
Wearing an all-black ensemble, retro ’60s makeup, and a platinum beehive, Pejic, backstage at Jean Paul Gaultier’s Paris show, revealed to the Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander that he would consider switching sexes for the sake of his career.
“Yes, if I was offered a Victoria’s Secret contract,” said 19-year-old Pejic. “You’d have to, wouldn’t you? I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way.”
The Serbian-Australian stunner told Alexander he has always known he had feminine features but it never concerned him. Said Pejic, ”I always experimented with hair and makeup, probably more extreme than I am now; pink Mohawks and things like that.”
Though Pejic has walked in Gaultier’s Fall/Winter 2011-12 Haute Couture show and Yoana Baraschi’s Fall 2011 presentation, appeared in glossies including Vogue Paris, and stars in Spring 2011 campaigns for both Gaultier and Marc by Marc Jacobs, he insists his career moves have never been calculated.
But that’s all about to change.
Asked what upcoming projects he has in the pipeline, he replied, “There are options. With all the publicity, it’s opened a wide range of options, maybe a movie, maybe stuff on TV.”
In the meantime, Pejic isn’t ready to follow in the well-heeled footsteps of Lea T. just yet and has no plans for gender reassignment surgery.
“At this point,” he said, “I’m comfortable with who I am now.”
