Andrej Pejic Is Jean Paul Gaultier’s Couture Bride
Now that’s what we call a curveball.
Jean Paul Gaultier lived up to his envelope-pushing reputation by casting androgynous male model Andrej Pejic as the bride in his Fall/Winter 2011-12 Haute Couture show.
The leggy blond played up his feminine good looks in a form-fitting, off-the-shoulder wedding gown that featured sheer panels, black leather gloves, a sheer black veil trailing behind, and a sky-scraping platinum Mohawk.
Dare we tell the groom?
Gaultier, who, like his models, rocked a Mohawk for his own appearance on the runway, has been known to up the shock value at his shows. Last year he recruited burlesque star Dita Von Teese to perform a striptease on the catwalk, while this presentation’s audience was treated to a can-can dancer.
The Serbian-Australian Pejic seems to be playing the part of muse perfectly. In addition to bringing his Veronica Lake hair to last week’s menswear show, the Marc by Marc Jacobs model can also be seen in a romantic clinch with look-alike blonde Karolina Kurkova in Gaultier’s just-released Spring/Summer 2011 campaign.
Apparently, Gaultier’s not only scored his own Baptiste Giabiconi—he’s found his Blake Lively too!
