‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Swarovski Jewelry Collection

Judging by the cool jewels sported by Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, it’s obvious these swashbucklers have no junk in their trunks.
In fact, Swarovski has teamed up with Walt Disney Pictures for a jewelry range inspired by both the film and the actual pieces worn by Captain Jack Sparrow and his sexy sidekick Angelica.
Among the loot in the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Collection: The $230 crystal-pavé Angelica Cross Pendant, a gothic goodie the Spanish beauty wears in the movie, and Depp’s $180 vintage-looking, silver crystal plated Angelica Dragon Ring, which is embellished with hand-applied, mini green crystals.
“We recreated a surface metal effect that gives an antique look to the jewels, like those worn by pirates in the 17th and 18th century,” Swarovski creative director Nathalie Colin says of the pieces.
Besides the Angelica line, which embodies Cruz’s character’s love of adventure and swordplay, the range also includes the High Sea line (think shark teeth, compasses, and messages in bottles); the nautical-themed Black Pearl line; and the macho-but-unisex Skulls & Swords line.
“We had great fun searching for the typical and symbolic codes of the Pirates of the Caribbean universe,” says Colin. “Without being clichéd, we looked for a way to interpret symbols and figurative motifs in a modern way that is always the signature of Swarovski collections. The overall twist is a modern ‘rock-inspired,’ edgy collection.”
