Helen Mirren, Victoria Beckham Named Style Icons by Women Over 50
Today's senior citizens have plenty of style icons to emulate: Mirren. Dench. Um, Beckham?
The 37-year-old designer made a surprisingly youthful inclusion to a new poll ranking the top celebrity fashion inspirations for women over 50, the Daily Mail reports.
While 66-year-old Dame Helen Mirren—recently named Best Body—placed first in the poll of 1,000 women, sixth-place Beckham and 20th-place Kate Moss suggest that the mature set has a soft spot for skinny jeans and sky-high heels.
"Victoria Beckham has proven she carries universal appeal and her image over the past few years has altered from high glamour to a more classic look which appeals to women of all ages," a spokeswoman for British clothing brand CC, which conducted the poll, tells the paper.
"The results show women in their 50s aren't afraid to embrace younger styles when they're done the right way.
"And Dame Helen Mirren has as much style, grace, and elegance off screen as she does on it and is a fitting icon for the women of her generation. All too often we are bombarded with images of youth and temporary trends, so it's great to see such a varied list filled with women of real class."
Sassy seniors Twiggy, Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, singer Lulu, and Judi Dench rounded out the top five, while pushing-50 beauties Elle Macpherson (#7) and Demi Moore (#16) also earned praise.
"These results show that age really isn't a barrier to style or confidence," adds the spokeswoman. "In fact, it can be quite the opposite.
"It's inspiring to see that many women over 50 are comfortable in their self, confident in their style, and brave enough to explore new clothing options."
