Kate Moss Covers Vogue September, John Galliano Talks Wedding Dress
Vogue’s legendary September issue celebrates one of the most dazzling weddings of the year, with newlywed Kate Moss on its cover. Ready to raise another glass of Champagne?
The bride fronts the magazine in a wine-colored Alexander McQueen organza-and-ostrich feather gown. With its fitted bodice, off-the-shoulder slashed sleeves, and extravagant skirt, the dress brims with fairytale grandeur.
The white wedding dresses are saved for the interior photo portfolio, shot by Mario Testino. The accompanying story by Hamish Bowles follows the party every step and sip of the way—including the wedding dress design by John Galliano.
Moss had her heart set on a classic, bias-cut gown by the troubled designer.
Bowles reports that the longtime friends got hands-on while the couturier entered rehab. “[He brought] bags full of bits, and pulled tulle and sequins and veils and flowers out,” Moss told Bowles. “And then we just kind of pinned things together, like the old days, you know?”
Galliano, who was a wedding guest, described the process as therapeutic. “She dared me to be John Galliano again,” he explained to Bowles. “I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab.”
The storybook look continues in a shot of Moss and her new husband, Jamie Hince, embracing under a tree, with the supermodel in a heroine-worthy custom lace dress and crimson cape by Rodarte.
There’s also a portrait of Moss surrounded by her flower-wreathed bridesmaids and flower girls—including her half-sister, who caught the fashion world’s eye once wedding photos started trickling out.
As for who caught the bride’s bouquet? Bowles tips us off: the photographer Marcus Piggott.
Vogue.com will be releasing a video of the wedding on August 11.
