Jessica Simpson Covers Lucky, Talks ‘Styling America’ and Avoiding Wedding Dress Shopping
Jessica Simpson's baby bump has only just been confirmed, and already it's landed its own magazine spread. Well done!
And though the mama-to-be had yet to announce her pregnancy at the time of her cover shoot for the December 2011 issue of Lucky, we think her sequin-clad curves speak for themselves.
Rocking big blonde waves and a metallic Gryphon New York dress for the cover, the singer-turned-fashion-entrepreneur skirts the baby issue but doesn't shy away from talking about her "fuller" figure.
“Everybody fluctuates, but I’m open about my weight and I’m still confident,” she tells the magazine “I didn’t cry about it too much.
"I got so much scrutiny for putting on extra pounds, but I think that the decision not to make myself anorexic was actually great for branding. Because when you’re really, really skinny, not everybody can relate to you. All kinds of women started coming up to me and saying what an example I was setting by not constantly dieting.”
Though we now know that baby is most definitely on board, don't expect a wedding announcement from Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson any time soon. There's not even a dress!
“I haven’t started shopping for our wedding yet,” she says. “When I got engaged, everyone thought I would get married immediately, but I have not put a single dress on, and by the time this comes out I will not be married! We’re just enjoying being engaged right now—and that’s honest.”
The former reality star (and upcoming Fashion Star judge) is also taking pleasure in her highly successful fashion empire, which recently added a tween line.
"If it has my name on it, I want my stamp of approval to be on it," she says. "I want to keep my customers coming back. So it’s going to be important to me in these next years to stay focused on the collection.
"I love that I can dream about paisley, and then two months later, someone’s wearing it. I really observe things now, like I can see a painting and want it to be printed on a shirt. It’s fun to always be turning things into clothes. I’m basically styling America.”
And that, people, is what we call having the last laugh.
