Alexander Wang Rumored for Dior Job
Let's make this simple: Is there a designer out there who hasn't been considered for the Dior job?
Following the fashion house's firing of John Galliano, designers like Riccardo Tisci and, most recently, Marc Jacobs have been eyed for the high-profile creative director role, while Erdem was given a glowing job recommendation by fashion writer Colin McDowell.
Now, an unexpected new contender has joined the fray: Alexander Wang.
Insiders tell Vogue U.K. that the edgy New York City-based designer—whose name is more synonomous with studded bags and downtown-girl duds than couture—has a shot at the job after a fruitless search.
"For Dior, it's a pretty tricky situation, as the three favorites really can't take the job," an LVMH source tells the magazine. "Haider Ackermann is said to be 'way too edgy' for Dior; Marc Jacobs wanted the job a lot, but LVMH wants him to stick with Vuitton; and Riccardo Tisci simply refused, saying that he was feeling more than comfortable with the job at Givenchy. So nobody's taking over so far."
So will we soon be seeing frat party-inspired Dior runway shows helmed by Wang? At this point, we're going with "never say never."
But since we're throwing names around, what about Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte? They know how to bring the glam, and they've got a big supporter in the form of Dior beauty ambassador Natalie Portman. Just saying ...
