Catherine Malandrino Cancels Fashion Week Presentation
Isaac Mizrahi isn't the only no-show this Fashion Week. Rumors are swirling of business woes at Catherine Maladrino after the French designer canceled her upcoming Spring 2012 presentation.
Malandrino was reportedly slated to show her new collection on September 11, but according to Page Six, the brand has hit rocky times. “[Malandrino] is in a time of transition,” a rep said. “ We’re refocusing, and we’ll be back in February.”
In May, news surfaced that Kellwood Co., which owns Vince, Rebecca Taylor, and Adam, might be interested in investing in the brand, but the deal reportedly fell through.
At the time, Malandrino had recently closed two of its U.S. boutiques, one in Las Vegas and one in Los Angeles. (There are still Malandrino boutiques in Manhasset and East Hampton, New York; two in Manhattan, one in Los Angeles, and boutiques in Paris, Istanbul, and Dubai, in addition to its presence in department stores and boutiques like Intermix.)
But just because she’s not on the Fashion Week schedule anymore doesn’t mean Malandrino won’t be a part of any of the festivities: for Fashion’s Night Out, the brand will hold a runway show featuring its current collection of merchandise, styled by June Ambrose.
