Blonde Ambition: Gwen Stefani on InStyle's November cover.

Michelle Williams, Rihanna, and now Gwen Stefani? Looks like the Marilyn Monroe-inspired magazine cover hat trick is complete.

For the November issue of InStyle, Stefani channels the classic film star via platinum finger waves, a hot pink Marchesa gown that smacks of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and a stack of sparkling Lorraine Schwartz bangles.

Not surprisingly, Monroe even comes up in conversation as the stunner dishes on her beauty routine.

“My hair color is L’Oréal, but I won’t reveal the number,” the brand ambassador tells the magazine. “And I do my roots as often as Marilyn Monroe did hers. I’m serious. I found out.”

Nice. Unfortunately, not all of the cover star's adventures in hair dye have ended well.

“Right after we came home from the first No Doubt tour I felt like I might get recognized, so I colored my hair red," says Stefani, who vamps it up in a blue sequined Diane von Furstenberg dress for the inside fashion spread with lensman Michelangelo Di Battista. "And I hated it."

But she's got nothing but love for a bit of slap.

"The makeup goes on every day, even if I’m not going anywhere," says the ruby-lipped mother of two, who credits her success as a designer, singer, mom, and wife to delegation.

Well, that and a good box of hair dye!
