Katie Holmes Fronts InStyle, Talks Suri’s Fashion Prowess
Now that’s an eye-opener: Katie Holmes, aka Mrs. Tom Cruise, poses in a vivid fuchsia Lanvin dress for the cover of InStyle magazine’s August issue.
With its long sleeves and off-the-shoulder neckline, the look is right in line with the actress’s personal style.
In the accompanying article, Holmes opens up about her fashion indulgences and her pint-size style critic.
Her husband surely appreciates her go-to style splurge: “Nice undies. They make you feel special when you put them on in the morning.”
She also tells InStyle that she can’t take credit for 5-year-old daughter Suri’s notably chic looks. “I do not dress her. She dresses herself! Obviously, I buy her clothes, but she is the one who puts her outfits together.”
Holmes herself thinks twice before trying a trend. “I’m not afraid to try a new designer or do something trendy, but it has to look right on my body,” Holmes emphasizes. “You don’t want to look like a fashion victim!”
Daughter Suri is a good litmus test. Holmes says, “she helps me. If she likes something of mine, I know it’s good.”
This aesthetic comes through in the sexy yet simple clothes she designs under the label Holmes & Yang⎯with her stepdaughter as apprentice.
For her Fall 2011 collection, Holmes was inspired by the needs of working mothers as well as offbeat actress Diane Keaton.
In an inside photo, she wears a billowing ultraviolet silk skirt by Holmes & Yang with a Ralph Lauren Blue Label cashmere turtleneck. With her Joey Potter-ish half-smile, it seems as though her breakout character on Dawson’s Creek would approve.
