Marilyn Monroe Photos Sell at Auction
Bidders prefer blondes?
A rare Mario Testino photograph of Kate Moss (2005's "Kate in Blue Cafe") fetched £1,364 (about $2,184) at Bonhams' Vision 21 auction on March 16, while a Marilyn Monroe series raked in some major dough.
Portraits of the iconic blonde by photographer George Barris exceeded pre-auction estimates, bringing in £1,320/$2,113 (1962's "Marilyn in the Garden" and 1954's "Marilyn at the Window," each), £780/$1,249 (1962's "Marilyn on the Beach"), and £840/$1,345 (1962's "Marilyn on the Sofa"), respectively.
The classic images see the Hollywood legend's softer side as she leans out a window in her bathrobe and poses in a cable-knit cardigan at the beach.
Still, the London auction's top draw was none other than Queen Elizabeth II. Andy Warhol's 1985 portrait of the queen went for a whopping £38,400 (about $61,500).
Guess Kate Middleton isn't the only royal with the X factor.
