Douglas Hannant Resort 2012 collection

How do you hammer home the idea of a cruise collection in the middle of steamy hot Manhattan? (Seriously, it's really hot here folks.) You stage it on the Intrepid. And that's precisely what Douglas Hannant did.

Scores of his loyal customers and sweating editors teetered on heels (thankfully we were rewarded with cold beverages) and waited for the show. I have to say, with the city as a backdrop and planes along the runway, it was a pretty dramatic setting.

Monique Lhuillier’ Resort 2012

For those who frequent the black tie event circuit (or for those who frequently report on the black tie event circuit—ahem) it can sometimes seem like black and metallic are the only option for women’s formal wear. (Okay, nudes and blushes make appearances from time to time.)

But if Monique Lhuillier’s resort offerings catch on the way I hope they do, expect some serious color on red carpets—particularly, a bright poppy red that brightened up the whole room at her preview.

Resort season is in full swing—did we mention how much it’s hurting to see perfect vacation-worthy fare when summer has just begun and we’re itching for a vacation?

The pain continued at Jason Wu, where the boy wonder showed a collection inspired by a recent trip to Old San Juan, complete with neon piping and his first forays into swimwear (think sporty bandeaus and a zip-up one-piece that looked right at home under a printed micro-pleated skirt). Also on the casual side? A Jason Wu hoodie—trimmed in lace, naturally.

His more buttoned-up offerings included fantastic tweed jackets and blazers, and after-dark options included a couple LBDs that are certainly coming to a red carpet near you.
