As New York Fashion Week wound down, the Chicks decided to go upscale at the Lincoln Restaurant, which is named for art impresario Lincoln Kirstein and not the president with the beard.

Bettina: I was awed by the Naeem Khan show. (Read the full runway review.)

Susan: As was I. Standing-ovation time.

Bettina: The minute the first model came out, I knew it would be perfection. The red sole of her Louboutins matched the red paisley pattern on her dress. It was a coup de théâtre.

Susan: You had to love the red strapless taffeta, which put me in mind of Balenciaga.

Bettina: The second dress, the ink-blot dress, looked like a Rorschach test. To me it said "heaven."

Susan: I was slack-jawed with wonder at those evening gowns.

Bettina and Susan: So many Salahi (crash a White House State Dinner) Specials!!!

The Ethnic Chicks have upgraded to Sant Ambroeus for soup and herbal tea because the sumptuous Dennis Basso collection put us in the mood for something warm. The collection could, in fact, be called “Evening in Gstaad”—or Aspen, for that matter. Or in the new economy, the Poconos …

Bettina: What did you love most?

Bettina and Susan: The chinchilla!!!!!!

Bettina: Shame on you, anti-fur activists, if you destroy those coats!!!

Susan: Amen!!!! I don’t see them pouring paint on the chicken breasts in the supermarket.

Bettina: But we digress.

Susan: I loved some of the below-the-knee, body-skimming mohair dresses like number three. And that Russian Barguzin sable coat (number 25) could almost drive a girl to marry for money.

Hello again from Starbucks, just two ethnic chicks talking about fashion. We had such a good time discussing Badgley Mischka that we thought we’d dig deep into our memories of Valentine's Day and tell you about Carolina—Herrera, that is.

Susan: The theme of the show seemed to be “Ladies, put your clothes back on and your ‘girls’ away.” It was a relief when we are all being asked to look like refugees from a pole-dancing contest. Shall we talk about the hair?

Bettina: No! Had there been room at the Tresemmé pop-up salon, we may have been more concerned. They didn’t care about our frizz, why should we care about theirs?

Susan: Fair point. I loved this collection, especially the flannel wing skirt and the sexy yet comme il faut day dresses.

Bettina: I personally loved the evening dresses—one in particular that I could have in my closet and take out for decades to come, it was elegant with just the right amount of zhoosh.

Susan: How does one spell “zhoosh”? Is it in the OED?

Bettina: I’ve tried to get away with it on a Scrabble board and it’s never worked for me.

We come to you today from the local Starbucks, just two ethnic girls talking about fashion. We considered having our meeting at the pop-up nail salon inside the tents because we are the ultimate multitaskers, but there was no room there when we left the beautiful Badgley Mischka show.

Bettina: Gorgeous show. I especially liked the “Upstaging Angelina Jolie” dress. They took the long-sleever she wore to the Golden Globes, made it short, one-shouldered, and tied it with a black velvet bow.

Susan: My favorite was the mink stretch crepe dress because it was both ladylike and va-va-va-voom! And by the way, have you noticed there was some junk in those trunks? The models looked liked they’d had a slice of bread this century.

Bettina: Speaking of junk in the trunk, number 14, the black amethyst taffeta and tulle gown, made me think, My cell phone is in my train, so I don’t need a handbag. And I’m CRAZY about number 16, the midnight satin chiffon gown, because it’s sophisticated, timeless and elegant—oh, and sexy too. Not as crazy about dress number one, a little too “Las Vegas funeral.”

Susan: There was some cha-cha-cha in the collection, like the last dress with the cocarde and cascading ruffles, “Wedding in Marbella,” or “Flamenco, Hoy!” I’ve aged out of that one.

Bettina: And number 25—it’s the “Querida! Tish, That’s French,” sexy Morticia Addams dress.

Susan: Loved the all-out Loretta Young glamour of the entire collection.
