Stefano Gabbana Announces Anna Piaggi's Death
Fashion Week will much less brighter this season.
Anna Piaggi, the Italian fashion writer, style icon, and front row fixture famed for her blue ringlets, hats, and dramatic makeup, has passed away at the age of 81, Dolce & Gabbana designer Stefano Gabbana revealed on Twitter early this morning.
"RIP Anna Piaggi ... :(((((," Gabbana tweeted. "Ciao grande Anna!!!"
Exact circumstances and cause of death have yet to be revealed, but Piaggi's Wikipedia page confirms that she passed away on August 7. Since the announcement, fashion figures like Edward Enninful and Dita Von Teese have already offered their condolences.
Described as "modern by belief" by Manolo Blahnik, considered a muse for milliner Stephen Jones, and the inspiration for a Victoria & Albert exhibit in 2006, Piaggi will be remembered as one of the fashion world's most eccentric and passionate heroines.
We'll miss sitting behind those blue curls. RIP, Anna.
