After three years and five seasons, Peter Som is leaving his role as a consultant for Tommy Hilfiger, Women's Wear Daily reports.

The designer won't be working with the label on its Spring 2013 women's runway and accessory collections, though sources say that the mutual parting was amicable. He will be replaced by an in-house team.

“It was a pleasure getting to know Tommy personally, and an honor to work with him—he has been a wonderful mentor," says Som, who hasn't ruled out working with Hilfiger down the road. "I look forward to focusing on my own business and the other opportunities I have ahead of me."

Simon Spurr, on the other hand, isn't going anywhere. The label-less designer will continue consulting for the Hilfiger menswear line through Spring 2013.

That will no doubt be a relief to Hilfiger, who last year praised Som and Spurr for their work in modernizing his brand, citing Som's high-heeled duck boots as "one of the most successful items we've had."

What can we say? Breaking up is hard to do!
