Tommy Hilfiger set his Fall 2012 collection in a gravel strewn park (indoors, thankfully). It was all rather bucolic and beautiful, reminiscent of those long walks on Downton Abbey—though the gravel was hell on everyone's heels.
With the popular British television program already on our minds (alas, we missed Sunday night's episode), it's no wonder we automatically thought of another Brit as soon as the first few looks walked out. Colorblocked with military detailing, the opening numbers (coats) were buttoned up but sophisticated. Eggplant (close to a royal purple?) was a frequent color choice. Paging Kate Middleton…
Leather, the fabric of the season, was used in dresses, coats and suits in bold hues. But the use of suede was perhaps more in keeping with the luxe theme of the collection: quilted, colorblocked, and worn ever so casually.
Menswear fabrics were re-imagined to great effect on dresses, trousers, coats, and riding helmets.
The look that stole the show however (and we can't help but want to see the Duchess wearing) was a navy blue silk dress with chain embroidery. Stunning.
