Iris Apfel Launching Handbag Collection
The self-proclaimed "geriatric starlet" strikes again!
She’s got legions of fans, a MAC collection inspired by her, and a collection of jewelry for HSN, but Iris Apfel isn’t about to slow down. The 90-year-old has designed a line of handbags under the name Extinctions, which will hit department stores in October.
“The old bag is getting into bags,” Apfel joked to Women’s Wear Daily. The logo for the line is an image of a dodo bird: “It’s an odd bird, like me,” she said.

The collection, which will retail between $228 and $398, is made up of a dozen styles, including bags made of exotic materials like Mongolian lamb and snakeskin in bright shades.
“I’m a color person,” Apfel said. “I’ve never been known to play it safe. Plus, I like big bags. My eyeglasses are so big they don’t fit into smaller bags.”
