Market Watch: Iris Apfel for HSN

Iris Apfel for HSN baubles

Don't be alarmed when I say this, but HSN (Home Shopping Network, for you non-TV shoppers) has some great baubles and bags in the pipeline. I popped over to their accessories event, where designers like Badgley Mischka, Loree Rodkin, R.J. Graziano, Lulu Guinness, Carlos Falchi, and many more showcased their upcoming wares. The items were rather chic—whatever notions you had of HSN can officially be put to rest.

The big news of the day is that 89-year-old fashion icon Iris Apfel is launching her own accessories line with HSN called Rara Avis. The jewelry is bright, bold, colorful and fun. It has a modern vintage feel (that's not an oxymoron, I swear). Think bracelets made from Lucite dice, or green, red and blue crystal bird pins. Her necklaces aren't for wallflowers: red resin chain links or turquoise-colored stones.

The items are certainly eye-catching but they're also wearable, if you prefer unexpected looks (and I definitely do). The 13-piece collection is available on HSN (the site and TV station) starting August and, best of all, everything is under $200.

Most of the new collections launch at the same time which means I'll be doing some late-night jewelry shopping this summer.

Update: After Hanna Bernhard accused Iris Apfel of copying the brand's toucan pin design, HSN told FashionEtc that they're dropping the pin.
