Liz no longer: Liz Claiborne Inc. is changing its name to Fifth & Pacific.

New Year, new you? Sounds about right for Liz Claiborne Inc.

The company has announced that after 36 years, it will change its name to Fifth & Pacific, Women’s Wear Daily reports.

After selling the Liz Claiborne label to J.C. Penney last year, the group—which is the parent company to brands like Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand, and Kate Spade—wanted a moniker makeover.

The name is a nod to the company’s New York and Los Angeles origins.

“We didn’t want a contrived name,” William L. McComb, CEO of Liz Claiborne Inc., told WWD. “We didn’t want it to sound like it came out of a naming factory. We also didn’t want it to sound like a hedge fund or a financial services company or a high-tech Silicon Valley company … We wanted a name that somehow captured the intrinsically American element of what we do, even though these are global brands.”

The name change will be effective in May, and the company’s New York Stock Exchange ticker will go from LIZ to FNP.
