Tom Ford Spring 2012 Revealed
Good things come to those who wait ... and wait ... and wait ...
After, oh, two months or so (not that anyone's counting) and a major clamp-down on tweets, reviews, and the like, we've finally got the lowdown on Tom Ford's top-secret Spring 2012 collection.
Images of the full line, shot by Ford himself, have hit Vogue.com, revealing an utterly gorgeous lineup of black and white pieces broken up by intense purples, reds, golds, and the odd petal pink.
Ranging from the modern, sexy, and slick (think corset-style lacing, zipper embellishments, leather jackets, Carine-destined python pencil skirts, and fringe inspired by his Santa Fe home) to the romantic and glam (Spanish-style peasant blouses, insanely covetable dresses with frilled hems and plunging necklines, and feather trim), the collection defies expectations with its womanly appeal.
It also cements the impending return of the power suit, with YSL-esque white tuxes vying for attention alongside skinny numbers in grape-hued, double-stretch satin, which, the designer promises, "hold you like Spanx."
But don't take our word for it. Let's hear what the man himself has to say about his new style signatures.
"Blouses with a loose, slouchy quality; something fitted at the waist, and with a bondage-y thing on the foot—my favorite is the wedge with the chain-strap!” he tells William Norwich.
“I’ve streamlined things more this season. I think I’m very classic, because what I do is always based on something you’ve seen before. And yes, maybe there’s something YSL about it. When I left off designing for women, I was at YSL so I’m working through that to be me, asking myself, What do I like? What defines your brand?
"My focus is really old-fashioned,” he adds. “I want to do classic clothes. I don’t want to do trendy collections that swing around from season to season. I want to do things that will stay in a woman’s wardrobe a long time—quite ‘forever’ pieces. So I’m looking for consistency.”

And let's not overlook the accessories. There are cuffs influenced by barbed wire, strappy lace-up heels, and chain-link handbags outfitted in black and gold leather, python, and feathers.
Soak it all in now, because it looks like we'll once again be biding our time come the Fall 2012 shows. Ford will be staging yet another round of intimate presentations so that he can offer more detailed explanations of each look.
“I think even if I had a million dollars to spend on a show, I’d still be doing this," he says.
