André Leon Talley Opens Gallery at SCAD
Vogue contributing editor André Leon Talley is a longtime supporter and board member at the Savannah College of Art and Design—also known as SCAD—and now, he’s sharing some of his treasures with the school.
The former ANTM judge will open the André Leon Talley Gallery in the school’s museum of art, which will house clothing from his impressive personal collection, as well as pieces donated by his bold-named friends, the New York Times reports.
“People love fashion exhibits because they can fantasize,” Talley told the Times. “They can respond to a dress even if they can never wear a dress like that.”
The gallery’s first exhibition includes an Oscar de la Renta gown worn by Penelope Cruz, a sequined Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress, a Tom Ford dress from his first women’s show, and blue satin Manolo Blahniks that were featured in the Sex and the City movie.
Of course, the show-stopping pieces on display are just part of the experience, according to Talley. Music from 2001: A Space Odyssey will be the exhibition's soundtrack, and there will be a little something else in the air as well.
“The only thing I haven’t thrust upon them yet is that I want fragrance wafting through the ventilation system,” he said. “Either Oscar de la Renta’s Live in Love, or Diane von Furstenberg’s Diane.”
The André Leon Talley Gallery opens Saturday, October 30, in Savannah, Georgia
