The thousands of street style photographs that hit the Web during fashion month have at least one thing in common: Their well-heeled subjects are always on the go. After all, who has time to linger when there’s another show starting in a matter of moments?

German photographer Anna Bauer, on the other hand, likes to take her time when capturing the sartorial set. In shooting her subjects—who include Karl Lagerfeld, model Tanya Dziahileva, Rick Owens, Carine Roitfeld, Pheobe Philo, Lou Doillon, Patrick Demarchelier and more—she uses a vintage-style Polaroid camera that takes a full two minutes to create an image.

“I was looking for a moment of concentration,” Bauer told Nowness. “Those two minutes it takes the camera to capture the image forces them to slow down. They have to be still, to concentrate.”

Nowness has a selection of the images, but all 240 portraits Bauer has collected will be featured in a new book: Backstage, by Angelika Publishers, which hits shelves in October.
