Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress on Display
She’s only been part of the family for a few months, but already the Duchess of Cambridge is helping to bring home the bacon.
Revenue from ticket sales to view the newlywed’s Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress—which goes on display at Buckingham Palace beginning July 23—is expected to rake in up to £8 million (around $13 million U.S.) for the Royal Trust, the Daily Express reports.
On show until October 3, the iconic dress has already drawn 126,000 advance ticket sales (more than double last year's figure for palace tours), with adult tickets costing £17.50 (about $28.50 U.S.) apiece.
In all, more than 600,000 visitors are expected to view the gown, which will be displayed alongside Catherine’s McQueen wedding shoes (U.K. size 5 1/2, in case you were wondering), Robinson Pelham earrings, wedding cake, and the Cartier Halo tiara she borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II for her big day.
Speaking of the Queen, she’s also doing her part to help boost the Royal Collection piggy bank. The monarch will be fleeing Buckingham Palace in favor of her retreat in Balmoral, Scotland in order to make room for the hordes of tourists headed her way. Can't say we blame her!
Before she packed up, however, the royal joined the Duchess on July 22 to see the exhibit, which the wise-cracking 85-year-old jokingly called "horrible and dreadful," Us Weekly reports.
At least, we hope she was joking ...
