Michelle Obama’s Stylist Meredith Koop Out?
Kate Middleton may not be the only fashion influencer on the hunt for a personal stylist.
A remark from designer Peter Soronen has tongues wagging that Michelle Obama has already parted ways with wardrobe adviser Meredith Koop, The Cut reports.
Speaking at the "Why Style Matters" panel discussion at the New York Public Library, Soronen, whose designs have been worn by the First Lady, said, "We heard that she's [Koop] gone already. So I'm not even sure who it is right now."
Once assistant to Chicago retailer/former Obama style guru Ikram Goldman, Koop was confirmed to have taken over the covetable job in late February, following reports of a "rift" with Goldman.
"Ms. Koop's responsibilities include advising the First Lady on her wardrobe and acting on her behalf in arranging for purchases, including considering the best offered price and buying on discount if discounts are available," Kristina Schake, a spokeswoman for Mrs. Obama, confirmed at the time.
Now, sources speculate that Goldman, who recently gave birth to twins, may have regained her White House role.
"You never know—Ikram might be back," speculated Seedhouse's Ellen Carey, who handles Soronen's sales. "I don't think their [Goldman and Obama's] relationship will ever end. For Ikram, she gives 100 or 150 percent whenever she does anything, so I think she had to cut back to manage whatever next chapter she's taken in her life. But I don't think we've seen the end of Ikram."
So, is this the First Lady version of All About Eve or was Koop just covering Goldman's maternity leave?
Stay tuned.
