Gwyneth Paltrow Takes Us Behind The Scenes of Her Oscar Look
Classic movie buffs may long for the days when stars kept their fashion and beauty routines behind a veil—can you imagine Audrey Hepburn Instagramming a "Hubert and me at a fitting!" pic?—but we find the new, Post-Empire age of celebrity transparency to be quite refreshing.
Take the GOOP newsletter, our preeminent source for bee pollen and cleanse news. Today's edition, titled simply "The Oscar Dress," takes us behind the scenes of Gwyneth Paltrow's Academy Awards Night look. Sure, the report is a little belated, but it's still pretty interesting to learn how Paltrow got camera-ready for the night, and just how many people were involved in the process.

First there was her stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman, who typically pulls dress options from a small number of designers—four or fewer. However, this go-round, she immediately settled on a white Tom Ford gown with a matching cape, after meeting with the designer at his studio. "This dress screamed OSCARS to me. It simply was ‘the one,'" Saltzman, who was recently named a Power stylist by the Hollywood Reporter, explains in the newsletter. Saltzman says the look reminded her of Jackie Kennedy; it also picked up on one of the season's top trends, winter white.
Between Saltzman, trainer Stacey McDermott, colorist Tracy Cunningham, hairstylist Adir Abergel, makeup artist Leslie Lopez and jeweler Anna Hu, who personally placed her ornate cuff on Paltrow's wrists, we counted 6 people behind Paltrow's red-carpet appearance—to say nothing of the various assistants involved.
Still, we appreciate Paltrow's honesty about how much effort she put into the day's routine, which she chronicled in the form of BlackBerry snapshots. Her pre-Oscars morning began with a Tracy Anderson trampoline workout, followed by a root touch-up, then turkey burgers with her kids. In the afternoon, she got her hair and makeup done with "one of my best friends," Cameron Diaz. Even throughout the ceremony and afterparty, the star kept snapping away, fangirl style. Our favorite shots include Sandra Bullock holding up Octavia Spencer's train and Paltrow posing with the "punk rock" Jane Fonda. So much for the era of Hollywood opacity.
