Elizabeth Banks Covers Lucky, Talks ‘Hunger Games’ Makeover and Shopping at Forever 21
Far be it from us to diss pink hair and butterfly paper lashes, but it's nice to see Elizabeth Banks back to her old recognizable self following her deliciously campy campaign for the Hunger Games/China Glaze nail polish range.
Leaving Effie Trinket's futuristic style far behind, Banks graces Lucky's February cover rocking tousled blonde waves and a multi-printed Stella McCartney dress with cutout panels.
Confessing to a love for vintage designer finds, Jennifer Meyer jewelry, and Frye cowboy boots ("perfect for slipping off at airports"), the actress strikes a pose in an apple-green Burberry Prorsum gown, pink Rochas top, sheer Red Valentino blouse layered over a black Topshop bustier, and a floral-embellished look from Louis Vuitton's Spring 2012 collection for her accompanying fashion spread.
"This leather outfit feels so rock and roll meets Audrey Hepburn," the self-proclaimed book nerd raves of the Vuitton getup.
"It has amazing tailoring. And I love white, especially when I’m tan.”
Not that she has much time for such high-maintenance beauty routines now that she's raising infant son Felix.
"I am the least looked-after I’ve been in quite some time,” she says of motherhood. “Normally for photo shoots I get a full wax, some tanning, a facial. But this time I’ve done nothing.”
Banks also opens up about using a surrogate to have Felix, the voice she created for Effie ("it’s based on my heroes, Rosalind Russell in Auntie Mame and Katharine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story”), and her curated mix of high-low fashion.
"I was kind of late to the party,” she says of her transformation into a style maven, though she admits the September Vogue was treated "like the Bible" in her home growing up.
“I mean, I have always appreciated fashion. But I’m a girl who loves a bargain. I’ll shop at Forever 21 and H&M."
When it comes to designer labels, Banks looks for discounts on Net-a-Porter and Gilt.
"I love Prada shoes," she says. "I cannot get enough of them. Or Valentino. I wore gold-studded Valentinos at the shoot today—they were amazing. I’m always impressed by the craftsmanship and beauty of shoes."
A gal that has killer taste and still manages to keep it real? Love.
