Kate Middleton’s Wedding Makeup: She Will Do Her Own and Has Been Taking Lessons

With the royal wedding just around the corner, FashionEtc has confirmed that Kate Middleton is going the DIY route when it comes to her wedding-day makeup.

London wedding planner Mark Niemierko—who is not organizing the royal affair—has learned that after Middleton did her own makeup for her Mario Testino–shot engagement portraits, the future princess has decided to do an encore on her wedding day. Middleton was reportedly unhappy with the professional makeup applied for the official photos, washed it off, and reapplied it herself.

But to ensure that her makeup is picture perfect, a friend recommended that Middleton take private lessons with makeup artist Arabella Preston. And she did. The classes were held at both Clarence House and Middleton’s apartment in Chelsea.

“It’s really important that brides have their makeup applied professionally on their wedding day because of the photographs and video that will be taken,” says Niemierko, who adds, “Even brides with perfect skin need a bit of cover up. Brides with less don’t look best.”

Considering that the royal wedding is the event of the century and all eyes will be on the bride, we’re surprised Middleton is taking matters into her own hands. We ourselves would have an army of makeup artists and numerous trial runs before that many cameras or HDTV came anywhere near us!

FashionEtc has also learned from a royal insider that for her matrimonial manicure, Middleton was planning on going to Footopia at Peter Jones the day before the wedding but was told that may not be the best idea because her presence would cause quite a stir.

And despite reports that Richard Ward is doing Middleton’s wedding-day hair, FashionEtc has been told it’s actually Ward’s assistant who will be working on her ’do.

As for Middleton’s DIY beauty routine, Niemierko says, “She is the future Queen of England and she’s doing her own wedding makeup. What’s next? She’s going to bake her own [wedding] cake?!”
