Fall 2011 looks from Rag & Bone, Michael Kors and Doo.ri
They’re back! Whether they have that Pretty Woman association—hello, boots!—or you think of Clueless’s schoolgirl thigh highs, the thighs have it again this season with over-the-knee accents in many different iterations. (And so soon after we were told that mid-calf-length skirts would keep them under wraps!)
Looking for a sexy take on the trend? Doo.Ri’s lace-up boots that disappeared up under the hems of her dresses don’t get much hotter—and with that kind of high-maintenance dressing, they’re certainly not for the faint of heart.
Ditto for Michael Kors, who paired his above-the-knee suede boots with a thigh-grazing minidress and voluminous fur coat. Olivier Theyskens also jumped on board the OTK-boot boat, though his slouchy leather and parka pairing made them a touch sportier—even with the considerable heel.
Rag & Bone took the trend both ways: After opening the show with graphic knit thigh highs tucked into shorter ankle boots, designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright also offered the boot version, colorblocked in stripes of ivory, charcoal, and pale gray.
And it wouldn’t be Fashion Week without a slightly wacky take on any idea: Thom Browne (who, incidentally, also started his presentation with models in full nuns’ habits) showed looks with cable-knit leg-warmers that started above the ankle and stretched up to, yes, mid-thigh.
