Fall 2012 Trend: Patent Pending

Patent leather shoes and bags are still de rigueur, but recently the trend has migrated onto ready-to-wear as well, giving coats, skirts, dresses and pants a slick feel. When Cédric Charlier showed a sleeveless wet-look frock and a shiny shell for his Paris debut yesterday, he jumped on a bandwagon that already includes Alexander Wang, Marni, Thakoon and more. Another key fact of the trend is color: as you can see above, these pieces often come in deep, bright tones that aren't for the faint of heart.
