Spring 2012 Trend: Metallic Shoes

Come spring, we'll be in dire need of a little shoe shining. Thankfully, designers sent out footwear with the Midas touch (and then some). Gold, silver, pewter, and many other metals lit up the runways, proving once again that less isn't always more.
Marc Jacobs's twinkle toes came courtesy of blue, green, and gold strapped pointy-toed pumps, but his real eye-catchers were the two-tone metallic cowboy boots. Rodarte teamed up with designer Burak Uyan on strappy platform sandals in silver and blue with an architectural heel. Also in silver were 3.1 Phillip Lim's pumps, with and without major peep-toe.
Jill Stuart went for the gold with strappy platform sandals that featured a chunky heel and gold dust detailing. (She also sent out mary janes of various colors with gold heels.) But it was Elie Tahari's intricately wrought gold sandals/boots ("soots"?) that were the best in show. In ankle as well as knee-high versions, these were meant for a Greek goddess.
Still not convinced that you need some heavy metal in your life? Designer to watch Norman Ambrose opted for gold platform pumps; Alice + Olivia had gold wedges, and Cynthia Rowley showed a chunky gold heel with a thick buckle strap and intricate detailing.
Spring may have been full of shoe options, but next season is all about putting your shiniest foot forward.
