Peplums at Vera Wang, Jason Wu, and Marc by Marc Jacobs
There are some trends that make sense each spring. Florals? Check. Whites? Check. Bright colors? Absolutely. But every now and again designers throw something different in the mix—perhaps to see if we're paying attention. This season, that would be peplums.
Short, tiny, ruffled skirts affixed to the waist of dresses, jackets, blouses and skirts, peplums were so ubiquitous this Fashion Week one has to wonder if designers had a pre-show powwow.
From Jason Wu's white short set, complete with a delicate bow, and Vera Wang's peplum parade—which featured ruffles in a psychedelic fabric (who says it has to be frou-frou?)—to a Marc by Marc Jacobs striped dress and a pencil skirt with some extra padding, this silhouette shows no sign of slowing down.
Thakoon sent out colorful peplums paired with metallic shorts and as part of layered, ruffled dresses. Badgley Misckha (See? We told you it was everywhere!) added a ruffle to gown after gown after gown.
Embrace this trend—a little cover-up is always a nice thing.
