Fall 2011 Trend: Get Your Kink On

Kinky looks from the Louis Vuitton Fall, Hervé Léger, and Alexander McQueen Fall 2011 collections.

It seems like just yesterday we were oohing and ahhing over the über-ladylike fare—elbow-length gloves, full skirts, bow-topped heels—presented during Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2010 collection. What a difference a year makes.

For Fall 2011, Marc Jacobs’s Louis Vuitton collection was inspired by “maids, hookers, mistresses”—in other words, between the lace-up rubber boots, clear plastic macs, lacquered lace, patent-leather corset belts, and yes, handcuffs, kink ruled this season—and Vuitton wasn’t the only one to get dirty.

Jacobs’s eponymous line, while subtler than Vuitton, played along the fetish theme as well, with more than a little latex and lace tempered by a witty dot motif. (Jacobs may very well be of the tongue-in-cheek camp.)

Sarah Burton gave her ultraromantic collection for Alexander McQueen a serious S&M twist with black leather harnesses over flowing dresses, while Christopher Kane played with plenty of leather and waist-cinching corsets at Versus.

Givenchy’s combination of patent leather, fur, sheer pencil skirts, and thigh-highs—all in black, naturally—screamed sex, as did the high-neck, corseted, zipper-down-to-there lace jumpsuit by Giles Deacon at Ungaro.

And if you think Hervé Léger’s skintight bandage dresses are already as sexy as they come, this season might make you think twice: Max Azria’s Fall offerings for the label included a strap-happy array of harnesses and hardware.

Looks like it’s time for those ladies who lunch to loosen up!
