Plush furs on the Fall runways are no new idea—a girl’s gotta stay warm, doesn’t she? But there’s no doubt that this season’s story is the rainbow of Technicolor shades that the furry stuff came in. Leopard print who?
Unsurprisingly, Gucci led the pack, with gorgeously luxe jackets in rich turquoise, violet and chartreuse. But designer Frida Giannini didn’t stop there: She also offered fur collars, scarves, and other trimmings in bordeaux, burnt orange, and deep blue.
Also showing a rainbow of shades was Sonia Rykiel, with candy-colored orange, pink and yellow fur scarves over equally exuberantly colored clothes. Chris Benz showed a bright yellow fur scarf as well, though his served as a subtle wink of color in an otherwise dark or neutral palette.
Céline’s Phoebe Philo had a more pared-down take on the trend—instead of a fully bright fur coat, she spliced a panel of red fur in with her chestnut brown and white coat for a colorblocked effect.
There was Prabal Gurung’s ombré purple, Michael Kors’s fire-engine red, Ungaro’s bright teal, and Missoni’s cotton candy pink—not to mention Prada’s shaggy furs in an array of shades.
Who says you can’t teach an old fur new tricks?
