Miha Fall and Holiday

A brand named after the adorable Spanish term of endearment is enough to make us take note. Throw in a designer who honed her chops at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s great contemporary line, Elizabeth and James, and an obsession with textiles, and we’re hooked.

The brand launched for Spring 2011, and is already being sold at Nordstrom stores and a handful of online boutiques, but expect to see the pieces hanging on racks in New York boutiques soon—they’re better in person, with fantastic textures like a bright violet fringed minidress, a cropped jacket with cagelike leather strips, and silky blouses in an original print made in collaboration with a London-based artist and textile designer.

The now-shuttered Lutz & Patmos may have been a sweater-lover’s dream brand, but M. Patmos, the solo effort from Marcia Patmos, offers everything devotees loved about the former brand—and then some.

For her resort 2012 collection, Patmos created a collection inspired by travel (it is a resort collection, afterall), which meant everything was packing-friendly (like some great, pre-rumpled pieces in a silk-linen blend) and pieces often served double duties, like a double-layered tank that reversed or knit cardigans with built-in scarves that buttoned off. A long black skirt and matching asymmetrical tank made an evening-worthy ensemble when worn together, but worked perfectly as more casual separates, too.

In a seemingly never-ending season of resort appointments and presentations, Stella McCartney’s adorable party in the garden at St. Luke’s in New York City’s West Village was a perfect refresher.

Instead of models posing in a studio, they played ping-pong and croquet, and wandered around the lushly green grounds. There was live music. There was a pretzel stand and a shaved ice stand. And there were plenty of McCartney’s stylish friends on hand—among them Liv Tyler, Naomi Watts, Estelle, and Bono. Yes, that Bono.

If that wasn’t enough to put you in a cheery mood (and seriously, who isn’t cheered up by a little shaved ice?) then there were the clothes.

ADAM Resort 2012

Let the record show: We love a statement piece, whether it’s a piece of jewelry as big as our head or an outrageously over-the- top gown. But there’s a time and a place for everything, and let’s face it: usually there's not the time or the place—which is why perfect pieces by brands like ADAM are flying from sales floors. Designer Adam Lippes does 10 collections a year!

Just because Lippe’s pieces aren’t necessarily Statement, however, doesn’t mean they’re not special. At today’s preview, where I saw Lippes’ resort and pre-spring collections (I thought those were the same season—apparently not for the overachieving Lippes), there was a perfect tee with lace trim at the neck and shoulders, a beaded white shift dress, a sleek and simple leather tank dress in the perfect blush pink, and spot-on basics like a sleeveless silk blouse and tweedy little shorts.
