It’s been a whirlwind New York trip for Stella McCartney, who came out for her Met Gala hosting duties and capped off her visit with a cocktail party at Saks Fifth Avenue, hosted by Liv Tyler.

The designer, who flew back to London directly after the fete, admitted that a three-day stay might not be conducive for relaxing—but there is one activity she always tries to squeeze in. “Eating pizza!” she said. “I grew up eating Mimi’s Pizza, on the Upper East Side. It’s been there a while.”

No word on if she got a chance for a slice this trip—we expect a bit of recovery time post-Met was a necessity.

“I haven’t even had time to stop and process the whole thing!” McCartney said of Monday night’s festivities. “I still feel like a young designer—even though I’m probably not!—so having gone there so many times as a guest and then to be asked to host it by Anna is a pretty big honor.”

Tyler may have gone to the Met as a guest of Givenchy this year (she sported Stella for 2010’s gala, however), but her friendship with McCartney goes way back—both women even needed a bit of reminding about how they first met.

“Stella!” Tyler called across the party. “Do you remember the first time we ever met?”

“See how memorable I am?” McCartney laughed. “I think it was at Kate’s.”

Naturally, the beginning of this chic friendship came at the home of one of the chicest girls around—the Kate in question would be Moss, by the way. “Our dear old friend—who I’ve known since I was about 13,” said Tyler.

Between snacking on vegetarian treats and sipping champagne, McCartney greeted the packed Saks floor, which included familiar faces like Jeff Koons and Hanneli Mustaparta as well as the designer’s loyal customers.

“One lady I just met, she was very sweet,” McCartney shared. “She said, ‘I love your clothes. They make me happy.’ I thought, All right, we’ll leave it at that!”
