There are things I spout off about fashion that I firmly believe in. Like: Invest in accessories if you don’t have a lot of money. They won't remember the rest of your outfit, but they'll always remember a killer bag or shoes. (It's true.) The other? Pencil skirts look good on everyone. Round, skinny, tall, or short, get yourself some sexy skirts ladies. I myself have at least five or six of them!

Dana-Maxx—who you may know from Joe Zee's All On the Line—held her press preview on October 13. I checked out her Spring 2012 collection and whatever advice the amazing Mr. Zee gave her has apparently worked. The pieces—all locally made in New York's Garment District—have wonderful architectural details: cutouts, back zippers that run the length of a skirt, an interesting pleat. It all makes for clothing that is flattering. If you think a bright, bold color won't work on your body type, I urge you to reconsider. Yes, me, the queen of the night is telling you that no matter what size or shape you are, vivid hues like Dana's will work, especially with the details she has in place. It's all about rocking what your mama gave you.

Ahh chestnuts roasting, jingle bells jingling—don't you just love the holidays? Oh what's that? It's October? Well you'll forgive me for being seasonally challenged. I went to American Living's holiday preview and it was adorable. If you're looking for accessible (such a nicer word than affordable, no?) presents to stash under your tree, then JC Penney has the goods.

There's something about L.A.–based labels that is just fantastic. Don't scoff; I know L.A. Fashion Week isn't ever going to happen like New York's, but there is a slew of labels that makes chic, flattering, relaxed clothes with killer prices.

Case in point: Kain. Designed by sisters Amanda and Melanie Kain, the label has been around since 2008 and started as a T-shirt concept. But that's evolved into knits, dresses and separates. For Spring 2012, the brand's offering slouchy tops, striped sweaters, and gorgeous tanks. Essentially everything you want to wear come warm weather. And you don't have to live in L.A. to get it: Net-a-Porter carries the line and prices hover at the $150 and less mark. Genius!

Most market appointments offer you the chance to browse through clothes, which is usually enough of a draw for me. Sometimes a glass of champagne or a sweet snack is also offered—bonus! But Factory PR’s Spring 2012 press preview offered something entirely unexpected: a psychic.

Roxanne Hulderman welcomed me into her candlelit corner with a hug, taking a small article of mine (my tiny rose gold ring) to get those psychic juices flowing.

After a few questions, she told me that I’m going to write a wildly successful novel; someday I’ll have a daughter; my soon-to-be sister-in-law, an artist, is going to win an award for her work; and that my late grandmothers are very present in my life, in the silver bangles I never take off (they were my mother’s mother’s) and particularly when I wear bright red lipstick, a signature of both.
