Last September, cult-favorite denim line J Brand decided to up its edge factor by pairing with five London-based designers—Peter Pilotto, Richard Nicoll, Christopher Kane, Meadham Kirchhoff, and Erdem Moralioglu—for a collaboration called 5 x 5.

The partnership was clearly a success, at least on Kane’s end: The designer and J Brand have announced that he will create a J Brand capsule denim collection as part of his 2012 Resort line.

“I am very excited about my new working relationship with J Brand,” Kane said in a release. “We have the potential to grow a very strong denim business and are thrilled to be working with the best in the business.”

Where the last collaboration only resulted in a single pair of jeans for each designer (in Kane’s case, a skinny camouflage-printed pair), this partnership will use not only denim but also other J Brand fabrications.

“We have collaborated with some of the best talent in the world and are delighted to be working with Christopher to build a long-term, viable denim business with him,” said J Brand founder and CEO Jeff Rudes.

J Brand also previously collaborated with Proenza Schouler; for Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s Fall 2010 collection, the designers created limited-edition hand-painted jeans, which were then worn off the runway by the likes of Leighton Meester.

The limited-edition Christopher Kane/J Brand jean collection will be available worldwide at J Brand and Christopher Kane retailers.
