At this point, even the most audacious bag, shoe and clothing knockoffs can’t shock us. But counterfeiting an entire store? Now there’s one we haven’t heard.
Ireland-based retail chain Primark (and, ahem, the company that came under fire for selling padded bikinis to young girls) has slews of stores in Britain as well as handfuls in Spain, Germany, and elsewhere in Europe. So far, it hasn’t branched into Dubai. So why is there a shop in the Bur Dubai district bearing the Primark name? That’s right—it’s a phony.
"We are aware that there is a store in Dubai that purports to be part of our group,” a spokeswoman for the retailer told the Telegraph. “Primark does not operate any stores there and this is therefore not a legitimate Primark store.”
The Primark’s parent company, Associated British Foods, is said to be considering its legal options.
