Rings from the flash jewelry sale site Plukka.com

Attention shop-a-holics: There's a new flash site in town and this one's a real gem. Plukka.com offers up gorgeous baubles (real, not costume) that will seriously make your outfit.  Wait, wait, don't put your wallets away—this is fine jewelry you can afford, we swear.

The premise behind Plukka is simple: The more people who order an item, the lower the price gets. And a piece isn't made unless there are enough customers for it. The site allows you to see just how low the price will go if, say, 12 people buy the same ring. Who doesn't love value pricing?

But there are even more discounts in store for you. Refer a friend and if they buy the same item as you (twinsies!), you'll get 10 percent off. You can receive up to 40 percent off an item with more referrals. That adds up to a big chunk of savings.

The first jewel up for sale is a 13 carat blue topaz ring with 16 diamonds and two amethysts set in rose gold. Currently priced at $1,800, the cost may drop $400 in the next two days. (We saw the pieces in person and can tell you, the quality far surpasses the price.) Other items include a citrine, ruby, and sapphire ring, lemon quartz earrings, and an amethyst ring, all on sale later this month.

The site is the brainchild of Joanne Ooi. If that name sounds familiar, it should. She helped revitalize Shanghai Tang in the 2000's, before leaving fashion to work for environmental causes, including becoming the CEO of the Clean Air Network, which fights air pollution in Hong Kong. Her next mission (she really is the type of person who makes the rest of us look lazy) was to create a new kind of social shopping site. And voila, six months later, Plukka.com is alive, and ready for customers.

So if you feel like buying yourself a post-holiday gift (no judging), start browsing. Come February, you'll get a nice little package in the mail. (The items only get made if at least three customers buy the piece.)
