Forever 21's “Oriental Girl” necklace
Retailers just don’t seem to be getting the memo—using culturally insensitive language to move merchandise is not cool.
Following Urban Outfitters’ recent Navajo undies gaffe, Forever 21’s stepping up to the plate with a new necklace dubbed “Oriental Girl.”
(We’re pretty sure the word “Oriental” in reference to a person was deemed politically incorrect about 10 or 15 years ago.)
As Fashionista puts it, “Why not slap on an offensive and outdated descriptor to your offensive culturally-insensitive jewelry? Even if that’s supposed to be tongue-in-cheek or something, it’s still idiotic and insensitive.”
