Glenn Beck Launches Markdown - An Online Sales Site
Gilt Groupe and Glenn Beck may seem about as disparate as two concepts get—but the Fox News host/author is jumping on the e-shopping bandwagon.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Beck, through his production company Mercury Radio Arts, has launched a discount e-commerce Web site called Markdown.com, which will offer one or two flash-sale-style deals a week. (Currently up for grabs on the site? A 50-percent-off voucher for Chocolate.com, while a 55 percent discount on services from LifeLock.com, an identity-theft-prevention company, is reportedly up next.)
“As a small-business owner myself, I understand the daily challenges that entrepreneurs face and how frustrating it can be to get well-deserved attention for a great product or service,” Beck said in a statement. “With Markdown.com we will be able to feature these great local and regional businesses right alongside some of the most well-known brands in America.”
Chocolate, LifeLock—fine. But when Beck attempts to hawk jewelry and handbags, we may start to worry …
And check out another unconventional e-commerce venture.
