Not feeling the retail love? Blame Canada.
Our neighbors to the north are getting retailers' full attention thanks to the just-announced expansion of Topshop and David's Bridal, WWD reports.
A franchising deal with Hudson's Bay Co. will see Topshop and Topman hit Canada as early this fall, with executives envisioning 30 to 50 locations within the next three to five years, many of which will likely be shop-in-shops at Bay department stores.
Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal are expected to be the first cities to get a taste of the British retailer.
The country has also proven successful for Target, Victoria's Secret, Intermix, and Bath & Body Works, who've all made the upward move.
Meanwhile, David's Bridal made its first international expansion last week with the launch of two Canadian stores. The move will serve as a guinea pig of sorts for future global expansions.
“Everything in our U.S. stores will be, for the most part, in our Canadian stores,” says Brian Beitler, David's Bridal executive vice-president and chief marketing officer.
“Canadians have the same desire for quality, style and design at amazing values. That’s why they were right for us. We expect our entry will be a game changer for the Canadian bridal market.”
